President's Message

“Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.”

                                                         - Victor Hugo

Dear SASL members, musicians and friends,

Welcome to the 76th year if the SASL, the 300th year celebration of San Antonio and the 78th anniversary of the founding of the San Antonio Symphony!

The 2017/2018 season's performance highlights include a September special featuring internationally renowned pianist Emanuel Ax, a diverse Tricentiennial Festival lineup, concert tributes to Leonard Bernstein in honor of his 100th birthday, 32 sensational Classical Series performances, and 16 dazzling POPS Series concerts - all at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

Remember that as SASL members you receive a 20% discount on tckets using the code SASL-League. Our tribute to the Symphony league concerts are the Nov. 10-11 Classics Concert and the POPS Concert on January 20-21, 2018. Please plan to attend these concerts. I will be there and want to see a good SASL attendance. Our signature event, the SASL Belle Ball, returns to downtown San Antonio in the Starlight Ballroom in the "newly" built part of the San Antonio Convention Center. Our headquarters hotel will be the Grand Hyatt next door.

We will be a mere three blocks from our beloved Alamo, to help enhance our 300th anniversary in keeping with our theme, "Journey the El Camino Real de Texas."

All of our committees are hard at work and they are embodying our missions statement:

The San Antonion Symphony League is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with tax exempt status. Its mission is (1) to support the San Antonio Symphony through financial assistance, service and education efforts, and (2) to preserve and promote the live performance of symphonic music in the San Antonio area.

I am honored to be your president the 2nd time around. I love all of our members and love our Symphony musicians and staff. Join me in attending more concerts and getting to know them better - your life will be richer for it!

Thanks to all of our Board members for their dedication and support, and all of our volunteers for their enthusiasm and loyalty! I appreciate you all!

Thanks so much,

Maureen Hillman
