Paint to Music

Paint to Music volunteers administer an art competition that makes a difference in the children’s experience at the YPCs.

The Symphony invites students Pre-K through Grade 6 attending any of the YPC concerts to create a work of art back in the classroom or home school setting while listening to thematic selections of music chosen by the Symphony. Over the years, entries have numbered in the thousands. A professional photographer photographs the First Place entries which are then shown at the final YPC concert of the season. All award recipients receive a gift bag filled with art supplies and vouchers to attend a Family Concert. All of this is made possible by the League’s Paint to Music volunteers!

Volunteer duties are to assist with the accounting of paintings, previously drawn in class or home by YPC attendees. For some students, winning a medal in the Paint to Music contest is the first time they are recognized for a special achievement and the effects of this are remarkable. Additionally, contact between League volunteers and parents and teachers helps create and better solidify a growing relationship between the Symphony and the community.
